{"id":2703,"date":"2020-11-24T21:11:45","date_gmt":"2020-11-24T21:11:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.humanepa.org\/?p=2703"},"modified":"2020-11-30T15:38:01","modified_gmt":"2020-11-30T15:38:01","slug":"humane-pennsylvania-and-terrible-horrible-no-good-very-bad-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.humanepa.org\/?p=2703","title":{"rendered":"Humane Pennsylvania and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5><em>By: Karel Minor, CEO\/President of Humane Pennsylvania<\/em><\/h5>\n<p>Wow, so how about this year?\u00a0 It\u2019s really the gift that keeps giving.\u00a0 It\u2019s delayed all our major projects, ruined our events, and tormented our staff at every turn as they try to do what they do best: help animals and people in our communities.<\/p>\n<p>Despite all this, they\u2019ve pulled through. They\u2019ve found new, creative ways to do their best work under ever changing (I mean, seriously EVER CHANGING) conditions.\u00a0 It\u2019s been harder to help animals and people, especially at the rates and levels we try for, but our amazing staff have been doing it with their usual skill and grace.<\/p>\n<p>Our donors and supporters have also been amazingly generous and where we\u2019ve been unable to have our spectacular events because of crowd restrictions, they\u2019ve helped make up the difference through donations.\u00a0 With the reductions in operating revenue due to COVID related operating mandates, this extra generosity has allowed us to ensure not a single staff member had to have hours cut or jobs lost.\u00a0 <em>Thank you<\/em>, to each and every donor.<\/p>\n<p>A Federal operating loan under the PPP program also helped.\u00a0 Another round of stimulus in 2021 would really help our staff, and all the animals and people we help.\u00a0 Looking at you, Congress.<\/p>\n<p>This is the time of year I always write a \u201cWe are thankful for\u2026\u201d post.\u00a0 I\u2019ve never meant it more than I mean it this year.\u00a0 From our donors, adopters, volunteers, fosters families, staff, board to, yes, even our US Senators and Representatives who gave us the PPP loan lifeline, everyone has come together to make sure we can do what we do best: Building the best community anywhere to be an animal or an animal caretaker.<\/p>\n<p>A mission like that doesn\u2019t come easily or without a lot of effort.\u00a0 That\u2019s why we are deep in planning for next year and we have two plans.\u00a0 One is the worst case scenario.\u00a0 We are good at worst case planning since we were small and poor not that long ago and even though we aren\u2019t as small now, we are not flush with cash, either.<\/p>\n<p>But we\u2019ve got another plan.\u00a0 It\u2019s the \u201cWhat if everything works out OK and we can get back to normal?\u201d plan.\u00a0 We\u2019re really hoping that by the middle of next year we can start working to that plan, and make up for the time and service we\u2019ve lost during this terrible, horrible, no good, very bad year.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you for your support during this tough time.\u00a0 All of us at Humane Pennsylvania are truly grateful of it and of you.\u00a0 We hope you have a safe and happy Thanksgiving and we can\u2019t wait to see you again in person.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By: Karel Minor, CEO\/President of Humane Pennsylvania Wow, so how about this year?\u00a0 It\u2019s really the gift that keeps giving.\u00a0 It\u2019s delayed all our major projects, ruined our events, and tormented our staff at every turn as they try to do what they do best: help animals and people in our communities.
