CEO of Humane Pennsylvania<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2382 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.humanepa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/PAART.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"165\" height=\"165\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.humanepa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/PAART.png 225w, https:\/\/blog.humanepa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/PAART-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 165px) 100vw, 165px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Humane Pennsylvania recently sent out an email appeal asking our supporters to donate to another organization, the<\/p>\n<p>Pennsylvania State Animal Response Team (PASART).\u00a0 If you think organizations don\u2019t normally invite people to give money to another organization, you are correct!\u00a0 But in this case, PASART\u2019s success benefits us and the animals in Berks and Lancaster County and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2376\" style=\"width: 164px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2376\" class=\"wp-image-2376\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.humanepa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/IMG_7671-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"154\" height=\"205\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.humanepa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/IMG_7671-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/blog.humanepa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/IMG_7671-rotated.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 154px) 100vw, 154px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2376\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Unloading surviving chickens<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p>PASART is a national caliber organization that serves to assist the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and other state and local responders with how to handle animals in the event of emergencies.\u00a0 It was only the third SART formed in the US, Berks County was one of the earliest County Animal Response Teams (CART) formed way back in 2006, and Humane Pennsylvania was and remains the only animal welfare organization which took on leadership of its local CART.<\/p>\n<p>Berks CART has been activated in floods, ice storms, blizzards, hurricanes, and even in large scale animal disasters like the recent case of a trailer load\u00a0of crated chickens being lost all over the highway.\u00a0 Our expertise in handling animals allows other first responders and agencies to focus on the human aspect of their job, while we focus on the humane aspects.\u00a0 Our CART is self-funded through donations and relies on Humane PA staff and volunteers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>PASART receives extremely limited State funding, has only one part time employee, and coordinates CART efforts around<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2375\" style=\"width: 165px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2375\" class=\"wp-image-2375\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.humanepa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/IMG_7701-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"155\" height=\"207\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.humanepa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/IMG_7701-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/blog.humanepa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/IMG_7701-rotated.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 155px) 100vw, 155px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2375\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Some of the chickens Berks CART was mobilized to rescue<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p>the entire state.\u00a0 If we didn\u2019t have them, we wouldn\u2019t have the crucial support we need to do our job well.\u00a0 That\u2019s why their financial health is important to us.\u00a0 They make a very little <span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">bit of money go a very long way.\u00a0 That\u2019s why Humane Pennsylvania is proud to support them, why I am proud to serve on their board of directors, and<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"> why I hope you will consider supporting them financially with a donation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When you give to them, you help Humane Pennsylvania, too.\u00a0 Disasters can and do happen here.\u00a0 We need a strong Pennsylvania State Animal Response Team to be ready and able.\u00a0 Please click on the link below to make a donation now and please check out their website to learn more about the importance of this high quality animal welfare agency.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/paanimalresponse.org\/donate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Donate to PASART\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/paanimalresponse.org\/\">Learn more about PASART<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Written by: Karel Minor, President &amp;
